Dear Tapping out of Trauma Colleague,
How can Shame play a key role in how we define who we are, what we deserve and what we deem possible for our lives? What is the role of trauma in developing a sense of shame and what role does shame play in creating trauma? The ability to accept oneself with all ones negative emotions, limiting beliefs, and history that can lead to feeling unworthy, undeserving of happiness and love and health…acceptance of self and even love of self can be significantly deterred when one has a strong sense of shame. Being able to heal ones own shame is often a stumbling block and yet critical factor in healing ones traumatic past.
These kinds of questions and explorations have led us to offer a fascinating interview and discussion with Connie Dawson, PhD, an expert on the topic of shame, having authored multiple books and having co-created a therapy center focused on attachment issues for children and is the author of Life Beyond Shame: Rewriting the Rules.
For our Spring Tapping out of Trauma free webinar, Craig Weiner and Suzanne Fageol will be facilitating this important discussion with Dr. Dawson. Here are just a few of the questions we will explore:
- How guilt and shame are different
- What is the relationship of trauma to shame and shame to trauma
- What are 7 Shame Based Rules that operate within families that lie at the origin of much shame?
- What are Shame Hooks
- How does shame manifest in the body
- The difference when shame origins occur in children vs adults
Dr. Connie Dawson’s career has been centered in the fields of mental health and education. As an attachment-oriented therapist, she specialized in working with children who sustained early abuse and neglect diagnosed with reactive attachment disorder. Dr. Dawson co-authored several books for parents, recovering adults and therapists based on developmental principles. Her latest book is Life Beyond Shame: Rewriting the Rules.
